Just a thought...
I have often wondered about the concept of 'independence' at the level of an individual. What does a person really mean when he or she claims to be 'independent'? Not dependent on others right?
But here is where the catch is. By definition, 'independence' typically necessitates at the very least an acknowledgement of the presence of others.
To make myself more clear - imagine a world where only you exist. You do all your work, survive, exist. Would you ever say you were 'independent'?

Interesting thought being mused upon.
Shiv,
My view would be to see 'independence' not as a physical entity, rather as an idea. Independence of thought, actions(Not being influenced by crowd behavior, or t rat race) and the existence of oneself with independence as its core value.
Yes,the word independence loses its charm without the dependence part, yet its 'in' the 'dependence' of oneself and not others that lets the word 'independence' its own charm ;)
I wont blame you if u r LSYH!;D
